Mentoring in Massachusetts.On June 22, 2022,  we presented the enlightening results of the 2022 Mass Mentoring Counts survey. Since its beginning in 2006, this biennial survey has provided a snapshot of the state of structured mentoring programs in Massachusetts. This year’s study focuses on the impact that the COVID 19 pandemic has had on mentoring relationships in the Commonwealth, and it provides a detailed look into how the pandemic has affected structured mentoring programs–their staff, their mentors, the young people they serve, and their financial security.

Infographic: Forecast for Mentoring Field in Next 2 years. 67% of programs predicted an increase in number of mentees over the next two years. 66% of programs predicted an increase in number of mentors over the next two years. 58% of programs predicted an increase in number of staff over the next two years. 55% of programs predicted a decrease in funding over the next two years.

Two Year Forecast for the Mentoring Field

In addition to providing detailed demographic information on youth served during the last two years, the report also offered a glimpse into what mentoring programs expect to see in the next two years.

Researcher Jill CapitaniMore on the Biennial Mass Mentoring Counts (MMC) Reports:

  • Jill Capitani, Research Manager from the UMass Donahue Institute, presented the results of the Mass Mentoring Counts Survey.
  • A panel of local experts offered their perspective on the data and how it should inform efforts to support programs as they adjust to new ways of mentoring and strengthening relationships in the wake of the pandemic.
  • There was an opportunity to ask questions about the data and findings.
  • A follow up networking session was held to provide time to dive a bit deeper into the data and share thoughts and observations.
