Our Why

Mentoring, at its core, guarantees young people that there is someone who cares about them and assures them they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges, making them feel like they matter. For this reason, Mass Mentoring Partnership’s (MMP) mission is to ensure that all young people in Massachusetts have the mentoring relationships they need to develop into thriving, engaged adults, resulting in vibrant communities. Mass Mentoring Partnership is the only state-wide training, research, and advocacy organization for Massachusetts mentoring and youth-serving organizations, committed to assuring that every young person in the state has access to caring and committed adults.

The ALKU Scholarship Award

The 2023 ALKU Scholarship Award will be presented during Cheers to Mentoring!

Created in 2015 by ALKU CEO and MMP Board Member Mark Eldridge, the ALKU Scholarship is a $30,000 college scholarship for rising high school seniors. Through Mark’s leadership and generosity, the scholarship provides youth the opportunity to apply for financial support to achieve their full potential as they pursue their college careers.

By providing financial resources, ALKU and MMP together aim to build the capacity of organizations to connect youth to a broader web of support, build on the opportunities their existing mentoring relationships have offered them and help eliminate any barriers to future academic, economic, or social success.

Mentoring Matters

The US Surgeon General recently released a report on the health risks of loneliness, stating that the loneliness epidemic is hitting young people, and those from historically excluded communities especially hard and listing social connection and youth mental health as top priorities for his Office. He is calling on workplaces and schools to make changes to encourage connectedness. MMP knows that human connection is critical to youth wellness and that supportive relationships lead to healthier more resilient communities. Research from the Search Institute shows that young people who experience mentoring relationships consistently report better developmental outcomes across academic, psychological, social-emotional, and behavioral domains. Specifically, the increased experience of developmental relationships among young people is associated with better resilience in the face of stress and adversity, including managing emotions well, taking personal responsibility for their actions, being good at making and keeping plans, and having a sense of purpose in life.
Invest in the power of mentoring relationships today by supporting MMP’s Cheers to Mentoring event!
Cheers to Mentoring 2023

Thank you for joining Mass Mentoring Partnership on November 1st as we celebrated the transformative power of mentoring in Massachusetts and honor the many programs, mentors, and supporters who fuel the movement and make it all happen for more than 50,000 youth across the Commonwealth.

  • Performance by Arkida Saiwai of YDO Lawrence
  • Honoring the 2023 ALKU Scholarship Recipient, Joshua Ozuna!

In 2022, the Event Committee and the MMP team collaborated to increase revenue and awareness in honor of our 30th anniversary by hosting our Journey to 30 Symposium and Celebration. This event raised over $300,000 in support of mentoring relationships, and brought together nearly 400 believers in mentoring relationships! This year we need your help as we build on this momentum to bring more resources to the field. At this critical moment, the mentoring field must evolve and address long-standing problems and inequities. Sponsoring this event allows for cross-sector networking and celebration with like-minded individuals.

All proceeds from Cheers to Mentoring support MMP’s efforts to provide free training, technical assistance, and capacity-building support to hundreds of youth-serving organizations state-wide.
