Mass Mentoring Counts Panel of Experts

We welcome our panelists for the Mass Mentoring Counts Survey Results on June 22, 2022.

Aviva  Luz Argote is the Vice President and Faculty Director at the Institute for NonProfit Leadership. Aviva’s expertise centers on inspiring professional and personal resilience, modeling authentic leadership, and developing cross-cultural competency. She brings this knowledge and experience to her role at the Institute where she designs its curriculum, prioritizing content pertaining to inclusion, racial equity, and social justice, and supports faculty members in improving seminar facilitation, classroom technique, and case teaching. She also offers her experience facilitating dialogue, creating generative workplace culture, and weaving relationships among diverse stakeholders.

Prior to joining the Institute, Aviva directed Harvard University’s Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations where she managed global civil society research teams and taught courses on strategic financial management, collaborative team design, and fundraising. Her experience as an independent consultant focuses on social sector leadership curriculum design and delivery and enhancing nonprofit board strategies. Aviva’s recent clients include Oak Foundation, FUSE Corps, and Harvard University’s Course in Exponential Fundraising. Aviva’s prior professional experience includes work with the RAND Corporation, Los Angeles County, and Coro leadership centers.

Aviva grew up in New York City making sense of her surroundings through the lens of her bilingual and bicultural family. She holds a MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School and a BA from Pomona College

Allilsa Fernandez graduated magna cum laude from Stony Brook University with a B.A. in psychology, despite being told they would never be able to attend school because of their struggles with psychosis. Allilsa is a mental health and disability activist. They are currently a volunteer member with Sylvia Rivera Law Project working in Shelter Organizing and a Tenant Activist with Met Council. They founded Peer Mental Health Alliance, an organization that provides resources, peer-to-peer support, and creative arts programming which aims to end the stigma of mental illness. Through their activism, Allilsa fought for and assured ADA compliance at Stony Brook. They have also provided consultation to companies such as Facebook and Lionsgate and currently is a board member of the National Council on Independent Living, DREAM and ISPS-US.
