Amplifying STEM Mentoring
Every October we take the time to highlight STEM mentoring. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) mentoring provides young people an opportunity to thrive through empowering youth-adult relationships. In honor of 2021’s STEM week, Mass Mentoring Partnership would like to highlight some of our partners and affiliates that work in this space and give young people opportunities to progress in STEM.

“Much has been written about how the future job market will rely heavily on STEM competencies,” said Clubhouse Network’s Jennifer Bourgoin. “We also know that many communities – including women, people of color, and first generation college students – are underrepresented in STEM careers. Our learning approach is designed to empower youth from all backgrounds to become more capable, creative, and confident learners. Members who develop a passion for STEM and build STEM competencies when they’re young will be well-equipped for the evolving job market.”
“When engaged in STEM learning, students learn much more than just those four subjects, including critical thinking skills, team building skills, and problem solving skills,” said Karen Chacón, Executive Director of the Latino STEM Alliance. “While STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, youth can use their STEM skills in any academic or career path they choose. STEM jobs will continue to be plentiful, and it’s LSA’s mission to bring STEM learning to youth to inspire them to pursue those jobs later in life. Even if students pursue other interests and careers, STEM knowledge as a foundation will help individuals succeed in any profession they choose.”
All of these organizations offer a robust STEM component of their program, with some even focusing specifically on STEM or a specific aspect of STEM. The dynamism of these programs make each one an excellent choice for young people looking for both positive youth-adult relationships and have an interest in STEM.”
