David Shapiro Champion of Mentoring

David’s Legacy

David Shapiro, former Mass Mentoring Partnership CEO and MENTOR National CEO, will be departing after almost two decades in the mentoring movement to lead the YMCA of Greater Boston as its 14th President and CEO. David’s legacy can be felt all across the country, as he poured his energy and passion into expanding and strengthening positive and supportive youth-adult relationships.

David served as CEO of Mass Mentoring Partnership from 2004 – 2011, and his list of accomplishments at MMP is singularly impressive. During his tenure, MMP launched Mentoring Night at Fenway Park, the Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring, Mass Mentoring Counts, and the Bill Russell Mentoring Grants Program. At MENTOR, among his many accomplishments, he partnered with global brands to elevate awareness of mentoring; he worked extensively with the Obama Foundation to center mentoring through My Brother’s Keeper; in 2014, MENTOR was selected by the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to establish and lead the National Mentoring Resource Center; and he expanded MENTOR’s footprint by growing the affiliate network to 24, with several more in the final stages of development.
