The Champion of Mentoring Award

The Champion of Mentoring Award is presented to a public official who exemplifies an unwavering commitment to supporting young people across Massachusetts. This award honors a leader who understands the vital role that mentoring and supportive relationships play in helping youth reach their full potential — and who has dedicated time, energy, and resources to advancing that vision.

Through steadfast advocacy, partnership, and action, this individual has championed policies and initiatives that expand opportunities for young people and strengthen the fabric of our communities. Their leadership reminds us all of the power of investing in relationships — and in the next generation — to build a brighter, more equitable future for every young person in our Commonwealth.

Since Andrea was a Boston City Councillor, she has been advocating for youth mentoring programs alongside MMP. Read the 2017 Op-Ed co-written by Andrea Campbell and former MMP CEO Marty Martinez!

AG Andrea Campbell’s Advocacy

We are pleased to announce that we will be celebrating Attorney General Andrea Campbell, our 2025 Champion of Mentoring, in recognition of her longstanding advocacy for justice, equity and opportunity. A champion for social justice and expanding opportunity through the removal of barriers, with the goal of ensuring the wellbeing of all.

Attorney General Campbell’s longstanding advocacy for justice, equity and opportunity deeply aligns with our mission and our work to expand access to and the quantity of quality mentoring relationships across Massachusetts. Her life and leadership embody the power of mentorship, community, and opportunity. With the support of loving relatives, dedicated teachers, and a caring community, she turned personal adversity into a lifelong commitment to public service and equity. Her journey—from Boston Latin School to Princeton, to UCLA Law, and now as Massachusetts Attorney General—is a testament to what’s possible when talent is nurtured and purpose is supported.

At every stage of her career—from her service as legal counsel to Governor Deval Patrick, to her groundbreaking leadership on the Boston City Council, to her historic election as the first Black woman Attorney General of Massachusetts—she has shown what it means to lead with integrity, vision, and deep compassion for others. She is not only a role model, but an example of how mentoring and support can open doors and change lives.
