SUMMARY:December Lunch & Learn 2025: Silver Lining: Exploring the Role of Money in Mentoring Relationships
DESCRIPTION:Exploring the Role of Money in Mentoring Relationships \nJoin a panel of Silver Lining Mentoring (SLM) staff members to explore the ways that expenditures of money by mentors or the mentoring program can positively or negatively impact mentoring relationships. The SLM team will share insights on topics where the organization has direct experience\, including: setting policies and maintaining boundaries around mentor expenditures\, leveraging free tickets or gift cards to enhance the mentoring relationship\, and best practices for mentoring programs that wish to offer stipends/grant funds to mentees during times of financial hardship. \nAbout our Panel Host\, Christina: \nChristina first became involved with Silver Lining Mentoring as a volunteer mentor in 2015. She joined the organization as a staff member in 2018. As Chief Strategy Officer since 2024\, she ensures Silver Lining Mentoring plays a leading role in growing the mentoring movement for youth impacted by foster care\, ensuring high-quality\, consistent relationships are front and center. Christina spearheads strategic planning for the organization\, advises on resource allocation\, and shapes innovation toward impact. Earlier in her career\, Christina served as Associate Director for Policy and Institutional Outreach of the Harvard Global Health Institute\, an interdisciplinary research\, and education initiative. She also worked in growth capital for the nonprofit sector at venture philanthropy firm\, New Profit\, as the Manager of the Reimagine Learning Fund\, a capacity-building fund aimed at improving the K-12 education system to better serve students impacted by poverty or trauma. Christina earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Marist College and a Master of Liberal Arts from Harvard with a concentration in government. She is a former foster parent\, mentor\, current volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) to youth in foster care\, and child welfare philanthropist. \nREGISTER\n  \nLunch & Learn Sessions meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 12-1pm. SUMMARY:Mentor Circle: Goal Setting and Support\, Effective Conversations-Behavior Change
DESCRIPTION:Goal Setting and Support\, Effective Conversations around Behavior Change: Chapters of Becoming a Better Mentor \nAs young people navigate increasingly complex worlds\, setting and pursuing goals can help them in several ways. Not only is making progress toward their goals linked to positive mental health\, but just the process of setting and monitoring that progress also promotes positive outcomes in young people such as motivation\, empowerment\, and improved communication between youth and the adults in their lives. \nJoin us to learn goal setting strategies\, and how to have effective conversations about shifting gears and trying something differently. We will explore how to avoid potentially harmful behaviors when having conversations about behavior change\, and how to encourage young people who experience ambivalence through the lens of Motivational Interviewing or “MI.” \nJoin us for a brand new offering from Mass Mentoring Partnership: Mentor Circles will run every third Thursday evening of most months (dates will be adjusted if holidays interfere.) Mentor Circles are virtual\, off-hours opportunities to connect with other mentors\, build knowledge\, and practice skills related to being the best mentor you can be. Topics will vary. You are welcome as often as you can join us. \n  \nREGISTER
