SUMMARY:Mentoring Black and brown Girls and Femmes Mentor Training
DESCRIPTION:MENTORING BLACK AND BROWN GIRLS & FEMMES\nMENTOR and its Affiliates are focused on addressing the persistent opportunity gaps and structural barriers faced by Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Color (BIPOC). More specifically\, this work centers BIPOC girls and women and how their realities intersect with themes like wellness\, community-building and mentoring. Research has shown that BIPOC girls and women experience unique challenges from childhood through adulthood including disproportionately high rates of school suspension and discipline\, sexual trauma\, violence and abuse\, and a significant pay gap with barriers that prevent full participation in the workforce. \nThese challenges\, perpetuated by systems rooted in racism\, sexism\, and structural poverty\, have long-lasting effects on BIPOC communities. Although there is a high level of awareness around this\, there aren’t adequate solutions that address the short- and long-term impacts of these experiences at scale. \nThis two day training curriculum explores questions like:\n\nWhy focus on this population of young people?\nWhat challenges do Black and brown girls/femmes face?\nHow do we take special care in establishing mentoring relationships with Black and brown girls?\nHow do shared/disparate cultural experiences impact our mentoring relationships?\n\nThis training is for anyone who is in mentoring relationships with self-identified BIPOC girls/femmes or the staff of organizations who support these mentoring relationships (whether formal or informal). Participants also need to be in mentoring relationships for at least one year OR staff of youth serving programs in the field for one year or more. At this time\, participants can be any race/ethnicity and gender\, but must be 18 years or older. \n**By registering for this training – You agree you are in a mentoring relationship with self-identified Black &/or brown girls/femmes OR support folks who are in these relationships (staff from your organization). You agree you are a mentor/volunteer and have been in this role for a year or longer (experience required; no new mentors) OR you are staff who has been in the field for a year or longer. You agree that you are 18 years old or older. \nIf you do NOT agree with any statement listed above\, contact Gabrielle Paquin at gpaquin@massmentors.org \nThank you! \nRegistration/Check-in begins at 9:30am with training beginning promptly at 10am\, both days. \nLunch and snacks are included for both days of training. \nPlease email NSpriggs@MassMentors.org with any training specific questions. \n  \nREGISTER
