SUMMARY:Social Emotional Learning ASOST Training
DESCRIPTION:We believe that when adults have stronger SEL skills\, young people will too. Building strong\, supportive relationships with young people is key to building their essential life skills. We’ll review frameworks for understanding SEL\, and share practical suggestions for implementing SEL practices with young people in a way that affirms their strengths and identities\, and helps us avoid common “equity detours” that may cause more harm than good. By focusing on our own SEL skills\, we can model and support SEL growth in young people\, helping them become thriving and engaged adults. Join us to learn more! \n  \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn with MMP - SEL ≠ Behavior Management
DESCRIPTION:Mar. 19 SEL ≠ Behavior Management \nDuring our training and conversations about social and emotional learning\, we often run out of time to talk about the nuances of the benefits and potential harms that SEL can cause when implemented without an antiracist\, critical lens. For this Lunch and Learn\, we’ll have a brief but insightful discussion about how institutions can at times use SEL for compliance and over-policing the behavior of young people. Our discussion will include resources from writers and educators such as Dena Simmons\, Alex Shevrin-Venet\, James Comer\, Lorena German\, Paul Gorski\, and more. We’ll also touch on why SEL is under fire in conservative states\, and hear from a local Boston researcher and practitioner\, Matthew Attaya\, on why we must act to protect the right to teach social and emotional learning skills in and out of school time. \n  \nLunch & Learn Sessions – meet the third Tuesday of each month. The event may take the form of networking\, a time to get deeper in conversation with others who value and support mentoring relationships or they may offer short spurts of information on updated research\, happenings and/or tools. We welcome you as often as you can join us. \n  \nREGISTER

SUMMARY:Beyond Imposter Syndrome: Dismantling Internalized Oppression with Collective Accountability
DESCRIPTION:Addressing internalized oppression is essential for generating systemic change\, as it drives marginalized communities to believe and uphold the negative messages and stereotypes used to oppress them. This training aims to identify and address the manifestation of internalized oppression\, particularly through imposter syndrome\, which results in self-doubt\, shame\, and other negative emotions that hinder personal and professional growth. Viewing this issue through a collective accountability lens\, participants will embrace healing and transformation by voicing the changes they wish to experience within their organization. \n  \nBy the end of the workshop\, participants will have \n• Examined the link between internalized oppression and imposter syndrome. \n• Shared their beliefs\, values\, or perceptions about their worth\, leadership\, and productivity. \n• Selected the systemic changes they desire in their organizational practices. \n• Brainstormed strategies to advocate for the organizational changes they desire. \n  \nREGISTER
