SUMMARY:Day 1: Healing Happens
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE \nTuesday April 7th and Wednesday April 8th10am-2pm \nJoin us for an 8 hour learning experience over 2 days for an intensive workshop on moving beyond being trauma-informed into creating spaces where healing can happen.  \nMany youth in our communities have experienced trauma\, the effects of which can be long-lasting and significant\, and can create barriers to forming relationships with supportive adults. This training includes a review of key terms/language and shares trauma-informed care practices and methods that can be employed to promote both resiliency\, self-care\, and supportive environments. With a better understanding of trauma and its impact on youth\, staff can structure programming that leverages the resilience possessed by youth and promotes healing environments.  \nWe will meet in person on April 7th and 8th on Kneeland St at the MMP offices\, beginning at 10am. Coffee will be provided in the morning as well as snacks throughout the day. A break for lunch will be provided. You’re welcome to bring a lunch from home\, or explore the many opportunities to pick up a lunch in our Chinatown neighborhood.  \nClick the link here for an additional offering of this same workshop\, same time and location\, on April 28th and 29th. \nQuestions? Reach out to Lauren lmccabe@massmentors.org or Emily edeluca@massmentors.org

SUMMARY:Social Emotional Learning & Youth Mental Health
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER HERE \nTuesday\, May 12th\, 10-3 \nAt this in-person workshop\, you’ll gain valuable insights into how SEL can help students develop skills essential for success in school\, career\, and life. At the heart of this training is the understanding that building strong\, supportive relationships with students is key to promoting their social and emotional well-being. Our trainer will provide you with a framework for understanding SEL and share practical suggestions for implementing SEL practices in out-of-school-time (OST) settings. By focusing on our own social and emotional skills\, we can model and support SEL growth in young people\, helping them become thriving and engaged adults. In addition\, we will explore the possibilities that staff and mentors may face when navigating today’s young people’s mental health challenges. Some young people are at greater risk of mental health conditions due to their living conditions\, stigma\, discrimination or exclusion\, or lack of access to quality support and services. A supportive adult presence – that allows for a shared connection and vulnerability – contributes to positive growth and adaptation. Join us for an enriching learning opportunity to share and strengthen your skills.  \nQuestions? Reach out to Lauren at lmccabe@massmentors.org \nA second opportunity to attend this workshop will be offered 5/20\, location TBD
