Todd will share why Forest Bathing is relevant today to help empower young people to restore resilience and connection within themselves and their communities. You will learn the background of the practice as well as some of the latest research around the benefits of greenspace on our physical and psychological well-being. Todd will also share some ways to explore the practice on your own. A Forest Bathing walk grants us the opportunity to slow down and allow our bodies to engage all of our senses. Forest Bathing re-aligns our rhythms with the landscape\, allowing our senses a respite from everyday demands and uncertainties. Observing nature around you whilst breathing deeply can help both adults and children de-stress and boost health and wellbeing in a natural way. And it’s FREE!\n  \nTodd Lynch Bio \n\nTodd is a certified Forest and Nature Therapy guide. He received this credential through the Association of Forest and Nature Therapy training program. It is a 6-month intensive course that includes pre- requisites in Wilderness First Aid/CPR as well as native plant identification. As an artist and landscape designer\, Todd has collaborated on healing gardens\, native\, medicinal plantings and art installations across the US. He lives in Western Massachusetts. He has received multiple Massachusetts Cultural Council grants for environmental art installation and education. Todd has also lectured at universities\, garden organizations and apothecaries about medicinal plants in the landscape and has served as a design critic at the Conway School of Landscape Design\, Smith College and UMass Amherst. DESCRIPTION:Motivational Interviewing for Everyday Use  \nAudience:  All audiences\, mentors\, youth workers\, and staff responsible for training\, volunteers\, and community partners \nPresented by: Kaydance Scotto\, Jac Essing\, Ilani Ortiz\, and Matt Ashby \n            DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps \nPresenter profile: \nKaydance Scotto\, Jac Essing\, Ilani Ortiz\, and Matt Ashby run the DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps program in Western Massachusetts. DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps (DSAP) collaborates with local schools and youth-serving agencies to create developmental opportunities for connection\, contribution\, and growth. DSAP Members are trained to use the conversational skills of “motivational interviewing”\, alongside Positive Youth Development\, to support young people in setting goals and activating the resources they have for making progress on them. Kaydance\, Jac\, Ilani\, and Matt have a combined 24 years of experience as AmeriCorps members and staff. They have been training members and site partners in the use of Motivational Interviewing for the past 7 years.  \nMotivational Interviewing (MI) has been used in clinical settings for over 30 years. In recent years\, MI has been adapted to serve nonclinical settings\, as well. DIAL/SELF AmeriCorps has been training members and site partners to use MI to support young people in developing a stronger sense of self-efficacy in pursuit of learning goals. Members have successfully incorporated MI in a variety of settings\, from drop-in centers and afterschool programs to academic classrooms and creative programming. This workshop will provide practical information and hands-on skill-building activities for using MI to support young people with setting goals\, activating resources to achieve them\, and increasing their sense of autonomy\, connectedness\, and confidence in their ability to pursue their goals.   \nLearning objectives: \n\nParticipants will learn the spirit/principles of MI and concrete skills to implement.\nParticipants will have the opportunity to practice MI\, bring their experiences to the table\, and gain familiarity with the basic techniques.\nParticipants will build understanding of how MI can be adapted for meaningful use in multiple contexts.\n\n  \nREGISTER

Join Partners for Youth with Disabilities to learn about disability inclusion best practices\, promising models\, and available resources. Increase your confidence\, knowledge and skills and be prepared to take the next step in your organization’s disability inclusion journey. \n  \n \nKristin Humphrey\, Partners for Youth with Disabilities’ National Disability Mentoring Coalition Director\, has been involved with mentoring for over a decade\, beginning with her role as a volunteer mentor. She has worked with youth with disabilities for the past fifteen years and founded a club at Connecticut College that facilitated group mentoring for siblings of youth with disabilities. She co-authored the manuscript\, “Expanding Horizons: A Pilot Mentoring Program Linking College/Graduate Students and Teens with ASD\,” which was published in the Journal of Clinical Pediatrics in 2015. Kristin has presented regionally\, nationally and globally on the topics of mentoring and inclusion. She co-authored the Inclusive Mentoring for Youth with Disabilities Supplement to the Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring\, which was published in January of 2023 by MENTOR National. Kristin graduated magna cum laude from Connecticut College with a BA in Psychology and was a selected scholar for the Holleran Center’s Program in Community Action and Public Policy. She holds a Master’s in Public Administration from Clark University and a graduate certificate in Human Service Management from Clark University. \n  \nREGISTER

DESCRIPTION:Anti-Racism & Storytelling: Meaning Making in Meaningful Ways\nIn this workshop\, playwright\, producer\, and PhD candidate Paul Michael Thomson empowers participants to share their stories and guides them in listening to others’. Led by the principle that one of the most powerful tools for community building is believing each others’ stories\, Paul Michael shares the historical precedent for personal narrative’s ability to break down systemic barriers. In so doing\, he creates a space where story transcends plot and hearing becomes listening. Come prepared to write\, receive\, and get curious about others! Everyone has a story. \n  \nAbout the Presenter\nPaul Michael Thomson is a theatre artist\, interdisciplinary scholar\, educator\, and founder of The Story Theatre\, 501(c)(3) in Chicago\, IL. Currently pursuing his PhD in Afro-American Studies through the W.E.B. Du Bois Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst\, Paul Michael’s research centers on the intersections between creative practice and Black liberation. \nHe graduated summa cum laude from the Honors College at the University of Arizona with a BA in Africana Studies\, a BFA in Acting Performance\, and minors in Spanish & Art History. As a scholar\, he has received research fellowships from the Black Metropolis Research Consortium\, the W.E.B. Du Bois Center\, the Flinn Foundation\, and the College of Humanities & Fine Arts. As a playwright\, his works have been produced nationally to critical acclaim. \nThe Story Theatre was named “Best New Theatre Company” by the Chicago Reader in 2020 and has received support from the Illinois Arts Council\, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events\, and the Chicago Bulls Charities in order to produce three sold-out seasons. \n\nRegister for this event

DESCRIPTION:Register on Eventbrite \n  \nWe are facing a tumultuous future in this country and the subsequent need for caring and healing relationships between adults and young people has never been more important. In order to build a unified and strategic human rights movement that weaves our strengths together\, we need to use our differences as a platform for modeling a positive future built on justice and the politics of love\, rather than a return to the past based on the politics of fear and prejudice. \nHow does “calling-out\,” or public shaming\, advance social justice ideas and lay the groundwork for important discussions? “Calling In the Call Out Culture\,” explores alternatives to the call-out ethos featuring feminist and anti-racist scholar-activist Loretta Ross. Ross believes that fighting against oppression and injustice are the dues we pay for the privilege of being conscious and we are honored to be able to challenge it with great responsibility. In our shared commitment to supporting one another – calling people in rather than calling them out\, is a prerequisite for building a united movement.
