SUMMARY:The Essentials: Training for People Who Mentor & Support Black Boys & Young Men
DESCRIPTION:This training aims to provide adults with the skills and knowledge needed to be effective mentors for Black young men and boys. The training consists of three modules: Examination of cultural competencies\, including an exploration of personal views on privilege and race\, providing tools for building ethnic/racial pride. Identification of social capital and related empowerment of mentee and family\, and the importance of racial identity. Exploration of research-based strategies and approaches that can assist mentors as they embrace a critical consciousness in their work with young Black males. \nJune 24th\, 10:00am – 3:30pm \nJune 25th\, 10:00am – 3:30pm \n
