Host Sites for 2012-2013 Ambassadors of Mentoring

African Community Education Center Position filled
ACE is a community-oriented educational program targeted toward African refugee and immigrant youth in Worcester. The ACE Mentor Program provides African refugee youth with a one-to-one personalized mentoring experience aimed at developing confidence and providing the tools necessary to be academically and personally successful. The Ambassador will lead the development and implementation of effective mentor recruitment and match support strategies, which will greatly increase the compatibility between mentors and mentees and allow for a more personalized experience. Learn how to apply/read the full description.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay Position filled
As one of the largest adult-to-child mentoring organizations in the nation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay currently serves more than 3,500 youth in one-to-one relationships, and more than 100 additional youth in group activities and camperships. BBBSMB’s Ambassador of Mentoring will lead the effort to develop a strong social media presence by spearheading a campaign that highlights current mentoring matches and their success stories as a way to raise awareness. Big Sister Association of Greater Boston Position filled
Big Sister Association of Greater Boston is the oldest and largest mentoring organization in New England exclusively serving girls, and is a nationally recognized leader in providing gender-specific mentoring services. The Ambassador will build on current outreach strategies to increase the number of mentors in neighborhoods where Big Sister has the highest demand for mentors, and improve Big Sister's volunteer engagement program to keep potential mentors engaged while they are in the process of being matched. Boston Partners in Education Position filled
Founded in 1966, Boston Partners in Education (BPE) enhances the academic achievement and nurtures the personal growth of Boston's public school students by providing them with focused, individualized in-school volunteer support. The Ambassador’s primary goal will be to refine and implement a strategic work plan to increase the number of parents, guardians and family members serving as academic mentors and to improve awareness and communication between families whose children BPE serves. Cambridge Family and Children's Service Position filled
Cambridge Family and Children's Service (CFCS) is one of the oldest human services agencies in Greater Boston, and has a long and distinguished history of serving children, adolescents, and families in Cambridge, as well as Greater Boston and its suburbs. The Ambassador will focus on strengthening CFCS's recruitment efforts, especially outreach to bilingual/bicultural male mentors to address the needs of youth on the waitlist and in the community. In addition, the Ambassdor will facilitate the ongoing mentor trainings as well as develop and implement supplemental, specific topic trainings for mentors in need of additional support. Learn how to apply/read the full description.

Catholic Charities of Boston
As one of the largest providers of social services in Massachusetts, Catholic Charities of Boston offers nearly 140 programs and services in 40 locations around Eastern Massachusetts. Catholic Charities will place two Ambassadors in two different locations in Boston.

  • St. Peter's Teen Center: Position filled The Ambassador's main area of focus will be to expand and improve the current mentoring program by creating a written program model, training curriculum, and policies and procedures rooted in best practices in mentoring.
  • South Boston TEAM: Position filled The Ambassador will work with a well-established program that serves as a one-to-one, community-based mentoring program matching South Boston youth (ages 10 to 16) with caring adult mentors from the Greater Boston area. The primary responsibilies of the Ambassador will be in the areas of program development, mentor training, recruitment, and match support.

Child Care of the Berkshires Position filled
Child Care of the Berkshires, Inc. (CCB) is located in North Adams. CCB's mission is to strengthen families by providing child care, family support, education, and advocacy. The Ambassador will focus on program development and will work with the Program Director to develop and implement high-quality policies and procedures aligned with field best practices to help the program operate more efficiently and effectively. Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiatives/Promise Mentors Position filled
Founded in 1984, Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI) is a resident-driven community planning and organizing collaborative in the Dudley area of Roxbury and North Dorchester, with a mission to empower Dudley residents to organize, plan for, create, and control a vibrant, diverse, and high-quality neighborhood in collaboration with community partners. The Ambassador will lead the charge in getting the pilot for the Promise Mentors program off the ground by developing a mentor recruitment campaign and strategies that increase the number of trained mentors of color, as well as nurturing a culture that values mentoring. Learn how to apply/read the full description.

East End House Position filled
East End House community center uses a holistic approach to promote the well-being, academic achievement, and successful transition to adulthood of children and youth from under-resourced families in Cambridge and surrounding communities. The Ambassador will develop a high-quality mentoring program model to serve middle school youth who have transitioned into high school, as well as provide support and evaluation services for the middle school program. Learn how to apply/read the full description.

For Kids Only After School Position filled
Founded in 1984, For Kids Only Afterschool’s (FKO) mission is to meet the educational and developmental needs of children through academic, recreational, and social opportunities that promote learning and self-esteem for life-long success. The Ambassador will lead program development efforts including formalizing and strengthening FKO’s existing mentoring practices and enhancing FKO’s ability to serve youth with special needs and/or behavioral challenges. Future Chefs Position filled
The Ambassador will implement and evaluate a new program pilot that was designed by an Ambassador in 2012. He/she will be responsible for mentor recruitment, match support, and updating programmatic policies and procedures accordingly. Hyde Square Task Force Position filled
The Hyde Square Task Force is an award-winning youth development and social change organization. Founded in the 1980s by a diverse group of neighbors, the Hyde Square Task Force began as an effort to reverse the trend of youth violence in Hyde-Jackson Square. The Ambassador will enhance and implement a model for training mentors in the Pathways to College and Careers Program, which will include a year-round training manual for each grade section. Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Boston Position filled
Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters (JBBBS) is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and of adults with disabilities by establishing and supporting one-to-one relationships with professionally matched, caring volunteers. The Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters Ambassador will develop and lead a grassroots community outreach strategy to recruit strong, qualified mentors. He/she will lead the Grassroots Community Action Pillar to educate its potential volunteer base about JBBBS programs and thereby generate at least 200 quality mentor inquiries. Mass Mentoring Partnership
Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP) is fueling the movement to expand quality mentoring for youth to meet the needs of communities across Massachusetts. MMP serves more than 200 mentoring programs statewide supporting 30,000 youth in mentoring relationships. We provide services including training and technical assistance, networking and professional development, mentor recruitment campaigns, advocacy, resource development & recognition, and mentor-mentee match activities.

  • Marketing and Match Activity Coordinator Position filled: One MMP Ambassador will serve as the marketing and match activity coordinator and will be a part of MMP’s marketing team. He/she will lead the procurement and distribution of in-kind donations for match activities, and support key aspects of MMP’s high-level public awareness campaigns such as Mentors of Color and the Red Sox Mentoring Challenge.  The Ambassador will also be charged with developing and enhancing tools to track the impact of MMP’s communications outreach activities and to communicate to stakeholders in specific regions of the state (i.e. Western Massachusetts).   • Program Services and Outreach Associate Position filled: Two Ambassadors will serve at MMP as a corps leader to provide leadership around team projects to benefit the field. The Ambassador will also work on special initiatives for MMP. He/she will support and lead in collaboration with the COO to manage Mass Mentoring Counts (MMC), the statewide youth mentoring survey conducted by MMP, and to develop a strategy around internal and external knowledge sharing. The Ambassador will also strengthen a strategy aroudn alumni engagement and will plan and lead at least two opportunities to engage alumni during the service year.   • Training and TA Associate Position filled: Two Ambassadors will serve at MMP as a corps leader to provide leadership around team projects to benefit the field. The Training and TA Ambassador will assist with updating training curricula and materials to reflect best-practices research, programs’ needs, and Quality-Based Membership requirements. The Ambassador will also identify and develop content for select corps leadership development and team building in cooperation with second Team Leader and senior corps members, with support from the program manager. Old Colony Y - Big Sister Big Brother Program Position filled
The Big Sister Big Brother program, and its sponsoring organization, the Old Colony Y, have long histories of working successfully with volunteers and at-risk youth. The Ambassador will conduct best practices research to develop a year-round mentor recruitment strategy for the Big Sister Big Brother program, which would potentially be replicated at other Old Colony Y agencies. Learn how to apply/read the full description.

Partners for Youth with Disabilities Position filled
Partners for Youth with Disabilities, Inc. (PYD) is committed to empowering young people with disabilities to reach their full potential for personal development. The Ambassador's project at PYD will strengthen program systems within the areas of mentor/mentee training, mentor recruitment/marketing, and match support. He/she will also develop and spearhead a campaign to recruit among underrepresented demographic populations and create stronger practices for mentor and mentee match support and recognition.

Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. Position filled
Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. (QARI) is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to foster and promote the development of the social, cultural, economic and civic lives of Asian Americans to benefit the entire community. The Ambassador will enhance the operations for two new mentoring programs geared toward immigrant students in both the middle school and high school, which were developed and piloted by an Ambassador in 2011. Roxbury Community College Position filled
Roxbury Community College (RCC) is proud of the role it plays in providing quality, affordable education to the residents of Roxbury and surrounding communities. The student body reflects a rich cultural diversity, with a significant number of first generation college students. The AmeriCorps Ambassador at RCC will fully implement and expand the Mentoring for Success program in order to strengthen its existing structure for students ages 18-24. Science Club for Girls Position filled
Founded in 1994 by parents concerned by equity in education, the mission of Science Club for Girls is to build girls’ self-confidence and literacy in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, with a focus on girls from underrepresented groups. The Ambassador will build upon a new mentoring program developed in 2012 for middle school and high school girls. The program will provide opportunities for women, especially those who have a science or engineering background, to engage meaningfully with the girls served. Learn how to apply/read the full description.

Taunton Area School to Career (TASC) Position filled
The Partnership is made up of many collaborators, including three school systems and various businesses, municipal offices, and civic organizations, as well as Bristol Community College, the Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce, the Taunton Career Center, the Bristol Workforce Investment Board and the other school-to-career partnerships under the umbrella of the Workforce Investment Board. The Ambassador of Mentoring will develop a strategy and appropriate tools to evaluate the current mentoring program and ensure that the program outputs are meeting the desired outcomes. This project will assist TASC in developing a plan for continuous improvement and to communicate program success to funders. 

United Way of Pioneer Valley Position filled
Serving non-profit agencies and initiatives in Western MA, the United Way of Pioneer Valley envisions a thriving, caring region where individuals have opportunities to realize their human potential, are economically self-sufficient, and contribute collectively to improve the quality of life in their communities. The Ambassador's main charge will be leading the quality mentoring initiative, which consists of assessing youth mentoring programs and their level of quality, in order to identify support needs across the region. Learn how to apply/read the full description.
