MMP helps to create and expand mentoring programs; develops quality standards and training; launches major mentor recruitment campaigns; and attracts public and private resources to the field.
You or your company can support us in a variety of ways:
Offer employees the opportunity to mentor: Almost 3,000 Massachusetts children are on waiting lists for mentors. You can help. MMP can train your employees to be mentors, and we do so by outlining the steps to becoming a mentor, explaining what mentoring is and isn’t, and matching employees to mentoring programs in our network that will provide them with a quality experience. Businesses get involved in mentoring a variety of ways, and we can customize an approach that’s right for your company. Contact Director of Development and Partnerships Vanessa Plant at vplant (at) massmentors (dot) org for more information.
Sponsor an event: Held each May or June at Fenway Park, Champions of Mentoring is MMP’s signature fundraising event with the Red Sox. Great for entertaining clients or employees, attendees receive special access to Fenway Park and hear from such guests as Terry Francona, Peter Gammons or Bill Russell. Each year at the event, MMP bestows Champion of Mentoring Awards to individuals and corporations. Other events include:
Recruit Leaders: MMP needs volunteers to help with strategy and outreach for our two largest fundraisers -- the Champions of Mentoring Breakfast and Rodman Ride for Kids. Great opportunities for your rising stars!
Connect Your Brand: Each January, a major campaign - National Mentoring Month - is launched across the U.S. to promote the importance of mentoring and to recruit mentors. Prominent individuals like Quincy Jones, Usher, President Obama, Sting and Kiefer Sutherland are recruited to be spokespersons, and local campaigns piggyback on national efforts. MMP is always interested in working with companies on co-branded media opportunities, whether TV, radio, print, online or other!
Similar opportunities exist for sponsoring the Red Sox Mentoring Challenge campaign designed to reduce the number of children on waiting lists for mentors across Massachusetts. Corporate sponsorship can be in the form of ticket underwriting for mentors and mentees, media buys to increase public awareness of the campaign or mentoring in general, or a comprehensive sponsorship arrangement that combines both.
Award Grants: You or your organization can fund MMP directly or provide us with advice to navigate your company’s grant-making process. You can also help by encouraging employees to donate to us through your matching gifts program. Additionally, MMP can serve as your advisor and/or evaluator on grant making for youth mentoring.
Contribute In-kind: Donate goods and services – whether “wish-list’’ items like a digital camera, a photo printer or other items, or professional expertise or services. We also welcome ticket donations of any kind (theater, sporting events, etc.) and can disseminate them for you to mentor/mentee pairs through the programs in our network. Furthermore, we will use significant gifts and/or experiences for fundraising auctions. Items might include, but are not limited to: event tickets, sports memorabilia, game or concert experiences, celebrity dinners, etc.
Donate: MMP welcomes and appreciates individual donations at any level. More information about donations can be found here, or mail a check (made payable to Mass Mentoring Partnership) to MMP at 105 Chauncy St., Suite 300, Boston, MA 02111.
