Mass Mentoring is launching the inaugural Corporate Mentoring Honor Roll to recognize Massachusetts businesses of all sizes that are strengthening communities through engagement of employee, financial, and in-kind resources. In late 2013, we invited businesses and mentoring programs to nominate a company for the Corporate Mentoring Honor Roll. The honorees are being recognized at the Jan. 14 Corporate Mentoring Summit at State Street during National Mentoring Month, and in conjunction with the Summit we will be rolling out an inductee in the days around the event. Today’s post recognizing the TJX Companies comes from their nomination submitted by Jeffrey Chin, CEO at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass/Metrowest.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Mass/Metrowest (BBBSCM) and TJX have formed a marvelous partnership over the last several years. During this time, nearly 200 TJX executives have served as mentors to students at Cameron Middle School in Framingham. TJX provides a bus to transport these mentees each Wednesday afternoon from Cameron Middle School to the TJX Headquarters in order for them to spend time with their TJX mentors on campus. Not only do these matches have access to great recreational facilities there, but they are also exposed to a professional business environment that motivates and expands their horizons regarding career and educational aspirations.
The TJX Companies, through their corporate giving and the TJX Foundation, has supported our agency recently with a major gift. Additionally, TJX has provided a team of riders who raise money on our behalf for our annual Rodman Ride for Kids team, and TJX has sponsored various special events -- most recently our 50th Anniversary Gala Celebration last spring, serving as lead sponsor.
Aside from these financial donations, TJX has provided a multitude of in-kind donations. They also provide support to other mentoring programs, including the John Andrew Mazie Memorial Foundation and Read to a Child. In addition, TJX executive Bob Maclea has served on our Board of Directors for the last several years, and we have had two other executives serve on our Gala and special events committees.
TJX has mentioned mentoring opportunities in their various internal and external newsletters and publications, and has been available for various public relations/publicity opportunities for us. Most recently, they attended a special event we hosted at Cameron Middle School to promote The New England Patriots' Celebrate Volunteerism - Mentoring Week campaign. Members of the NE Patriots organization (including players) came to the event to interact and speak with our TJX matches at Cameron Middle School. TJX has been a superb partner for our agency, and have been tremendously generous!
Congratulations to the TJX Companies being named to the Corporate Mentoring Honor Roll.
