In our field of work, countless youth we support in mentoring relationships have experienced traumatic events. The effects of trauma can be significant for these youth and create barriers for them in forming relationships with caring adults. With a better understanding of what trauma is, one can begin to make sense of behaviors that can seem confusing or extreme. After this workshop, participants will be able to support their agency with resources on helping youth cope with traumatic events that have effected their lives.

Topics for this workshop include:

  • Trauma and its impact on youth/child development
  • Trauma's impact on families
  • Principles around trauma awareness
  • Trauma's relation to mentoring
  • Helping your organization be more trauma aware
  • Ability to overcome trauma

This training is best for: All formal youth mentoring programs interested in raising awareness of trauma and its causes and effects.

If you are a partner-level organization and would like to use one of your vouchers for this training, please contact Shylah Duchicela, for further instructions.
