On May 25th, nearly 1,000 mentors and mentees from across the state will come to Fenway Park for Mentoring Night to celebrate relationships and watch the Red Sox take on the Rockies. Some of the matches will appear on the field during the Mentoring Night pregame activities. Representing Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin County, mentee, Gabe, and mentor, Tom, will throw out the first pitch!
Tom and Gabe, who were matched through MMP's partner program, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Franklin County, were fast friends. They discovered early on their shared love of fishing and were each thrilled to have found a new fishing buddy. They spend their time together taking care of the animals around Tom’s farm, working on his boat, and, of course, going on fishing trips. Luckily for Gabe, Tom lives on the corner of two rivers, so the opportunity to catch bass is plentiful.
When asked about his experience with mentoring, Tom expressed how much being a mentor has taught him. “I have learned the importance of being there for somebody, even if it is just as somebody to listen. It taught me a lot about my own values as well," Tom said.
Gabe’s enthusiasm for their time together only further adds to the mutual benefits gained by the match. Congrats to Gabe for being selected to throw the first pitch at the Red Sox game Wednesday!
