On February 28th, we held our 25th Anniversary Gala Celebration to honor individuals and organizations that have supported Mass Mentoring Partnership over the past quarter century. We honored our Four Pillars of Mass Mentoring, a group of people that created the foundation for our organization. Here is a profile of the Kelly family -- Ted, Debbie and Sonja -- Pillars of Mass Mentoring Partnership, followed by a video tribute that was shown at the event.
The Kelly family’s long association with Mass Mentoring Partnership has had a tremendous impact on the organization that continues to this day. Ted Kelly joined the Leadership Council and Governing Board in 2000 to help provide critical leadership to MMP and continue the innovative efforts of the founders, Father Monan and Paul O’Brien. As CEO and Chairman of Liberty Mutual, he leveraged support from Liberty Mutual and his wide business contacts to grow the Leadership Council and raise important funds for MMP and mentoring. In addition, to providing leadership to strengthen Mass Mentoring, he and his team led a $1 million dollar investment in the Liberty Mutual Mentoring Initiative. Ted and Debbie have been generous supporters of MMP over the years and helped to fund and create the KELLY Award program which has given over $150,000 in scholarships since its creation in 2009. Their financial support has been key in helping MMP reach its next chapter in its story of impact. The family commitment to MMP has continued with Sonja Kelly joining the MMP board in 2013 and chairing the Governance Committee for the past three years. Sonja has helped MMP connect with many new institutional funders and has been a strong and important advocate for mentoring across the region. Her leadership has carried on the family legacy of the Kelly’s investment in mentoring and MMP.
“Ted was my first board chair at MMP. He taught a liberal arts guy how to say a lot in a little amount of time - a skill that serves me well to this day. He and his family showed me time and time again what it looks like to be committed to others, humble in spirit, straight forward in approach, and values-driven.”
—DAVID SHAPIRO | FORMER MMP CEO
“The Kelly family has been so instrumental in MMP’s journey through the years. Sonja has been such a strong supporter of MMP since I became CEO and it’s incredible to see the generational support of the Kelly family continue with her. I value her voice, guidance and leadership and am so proud to have her as a partner in our work.”
