Each year at the event, MMP bestows the Champion of Mentoring Awards to individuals and organizations who have shown a strong commitment to the mentoring field; the KELLY Award to a young person for his or her educational pursuits; and the James G. Connolly Tribute Fund awards to provide grant money to mentoring programs working to better their communities. The event also includes a networking portion, speaking program, and online auction.

OUR 2016 CHAMPIONS OF MENTORING HONOREES

maureen_0.jpgMaureen Connolly, in recognition of her leadership and establishment of the James G. Connolly Tribute Fund to support mentoring programs.

In 2010, Mass Mentoring Partnership board chair Jim Connolly passed away. Jim embodied, symbolized, and believed in the power of mentoring and the role that caring adults could play in helping young people reach their full potential. Maureen Connolly wanted to continue her husband’s work and legacy through the creation of a fund in his name. Through her efforts, the James G. Connolly Tribute Fund was established. Each year, Mass Mentoring Partnership works with Maureen and her family to award funds to mentoring programs aligned with MMP’s mission to expand empowering youth-adult relationships across Massachusetts. Since 2010, mentoring programs have been awarded more than $150,000 through the Connolly Fund to support their work.

Suffolk Construction, in recognition of their support of Boston Scholar Athletes, Camp Harbor View, and all they do for young people across Massachusetts.

Based in Boston, Suffolk Construction is one of the largest construction management firms in the country with a reputation for quality and innovation. Members of the Suffolk Construction team also have a strong commitment to the communities they serve, particularly here at home. Here are just two examples of their support for young people:  In 2009, Suffolk established Scholar Athletes, a program dedicated to reducing the opportunity gap for urban public high school students and providing school-based learning zones and individual tutoring to nearly 4,600 students in Boston and Springfield. Scholar Athletes boasts a college acceptance rate of 92% for its participants. Suffolk also played a vital role in the creation of Camp Harbor View, a program that serves 900 young people from Boston’s at-risk neighborhoods through summer camp sessions on Long Island in the Boston Harbor, and offers programs to campers and their families throughout the year.
