Policy Update: Mentoring Matching Grant & Budget

Governor Baker recently revealed the line items that were subject to $98 million in 9c cuts as a result of the revenue shortfall our state has faced over the last few months. We are thankful that the governor did not cut our mentoring matching grant line item, however many services that directly affect young people across the state were, which can have a direct impact on the youth you serve.

As we prepare for the  FY 18 budget cycle, we will rely on your support and advocacy to ensure the the Mentoring Matching Grant, the only dedicated state funding to support youth mentoring programs across Massachusetts, is funded at $750,000.

In the next few weeks, our advocacy team will meet with members of Governor Baker's Office of Administration and Finance to submit our budget request, and we will be lobbying for the increased funding throughout January setting up legislator visits, sending emails and making calls, and promoting the benefits and importance of mentoring programs at Youth Mentoring Day
