The Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus organized a listening tour throughout the state in an effort to seek input from the public as they determined the legislative solutions to address the concerns most impacting Black and Latino communities. The first two sessions were held in Lawrence and Springfield, and the final stop was in Boston on December 20th.
Mass Mentoring was proud to submit a testimony on the need for youth of color to be supported through healthy youth-adult, mentoring relationships. We believe that for children to grow up and become successful, and to build thriving, resilient communities, young people need adults in their lives to serve as positive role models. To see that as a reality, we are encouraging the Caucus to support MMP's policy initiatives which include funding the Mentoring Matching Grants Line Item at $750,000 and our legislative recommendations to include student success coaches in schools with a dropout rate higher than the state average.
